Czech Lion Awards
WINNER of 8 Czech Lions including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor

Widely considered one of the greatest runners of all time, ZÁTOPEK stars Václav Neužil as long-distance runner and four-time Olympic gold medalist Emil Zátopek. The “Czech locomotive” achieved an unprecedented hat trick at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki, winning the 5,000m, 10,000m, and Marathon.

Told in episodes, ZÁTOPEK begins with Australian runner Ron Clarke visiting Zátopek in 1968. During their dialogue, viewers flashback to the beginning of Emil’s career, his first success at the WCA in Berlin, meeting the javelin thrower Dana Zátopková, his future wife, his Olympic success, and witness the increasing pressure of the communist regime.

Premiering at the prestigious Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, ZÁTOPEK won eight Czech Lions for best film, director, actor in a leading role, cinematography, editing, sound, production design, and makeup and hairstyling. It also took home the fan vote category at the awards and was the Czech submission for the 2021 Oscars.
