Visionary director Agnieszka Holland brings to life one of literature’s most enigmatic figures in this visually rich and unconventional portrait of legendary 20th-century writer Franz Kafka (Idan Weiss). Blending biography with touches of magical realism, FRANZ explores Kafka’s complicated family relationships, his connections with the women in his life, and the enduring literary legacy shaped by his close friend and confidant, Max Brod.

Moving between Kafka’s childhood in Prague and his final years in post-World War I Vienna, the film unfolds as a nonlinear mosaic, capturing the inner world, anxieties, and search for meaning of a writer whose work continues to resonate across generations.

FRANZ received 15 Czech Lion Award nominations, winning four, including Best Actor, Best Set Design, Best Costumes, and Best Make-Up.
