Sugar Candy (Cukrkandl)

Set at the turn of the 20th century, SUGAR CANDY is a whimsical Czech family adventure blending fantasy, humor, and a bit of suspense. The film follows Anička Jesenská (Tereza Ramba), a young dentist who inherits a mysterious villa and practice in the spa town of Medov. Driven to offer children painless care after her mother’s tragic experience, she struggles at first as locals, fearing the house is haunted, keep their distance.  Everything changes when Anička discovers a rare Peruvian herb that transforms her treatments. As her reputation grows, she attracts both eager patients and powerful rivals, including a competing dentist and producers of a sugary delicacy known as “cukrkandl.”

With the help of a group of determined local children, Anička embarks on a mission that is as much about courage and compassion as it is about standing up to sugar-fueled injustice.

Blending magical realism with historical storytelling, SUGAR CANDY was nominated for the Czech Lion Award for Best Art Direction and was shot at locations across the Czech Republic.
