Up From the Streets: New Orleans, City of Music

Watch Trailer Watch at Home
“This music documentary from filmmaker Michael Murphy is as ambitious as it is audacious, setting out to chronicle the history of New Orleans music — all of it, from the first slave-driven drum circles at Congo Square through to the arrival of Bounce music…. a fitting tribute to the city’s sonic history. – Mike Scott, The Times-Picayune | The New Orleans Advocate

Hosted by Oscar-nominated and six-time Grammy-winning jazz trumpeter / composer Terence Blanchard, UP FROM THE STREETS explores the unparalleled musical heritage of New Orleans. Archival and newly filmed performances by such legends as Louis Armstrong, Fats Domino, Allen Toussaint, Dr. John, The Neville Brothers, and The Preservation Hall Jazz Band are weaved between conversations with such impactful New Orleans musicians as Branford Marsalis, Wynton Marsalis, Harry Connick, Jr. and more.
