Fiddler: A Miracle of Miracles

Watch Trailer
“A richly detailed survey of the origins and evolution of the 1964 musical classic, and the universal themes that have earned it an enduring place in the pop-culture firmament. – David Rooney, The Hollywood Reporter

This film is the first in-depth documentary that chronicles the life and themes of Fiddler on the Roof, an iconic offering of American culture. The goal of this documentary is to understand why the story of Tevye the milkman is reborn again and again as beloved entertainment and a cultural touchstone.

When Fiddler on the Roof opened on Broadway in 1964, it explored themes of tradition, religion, and anti-Semitism against a modern backdrop of radical social change that addressed gender roles, sexuality, and race. It held the record for the longest running musical for almost 10 years, won nine Tony Awards and spawned five Broadway revivals. The show is still performed more than any other show, from middle schools in inner cities to high schools in rural America, around the world from grand state theaters in Japan and Vienna to Johannesburg and Mexico City. Rare archival footage and interviews with musical luminaries explore the legacy of this long-running, award-winning musical.
