Dirty Dancing

In the summer of 1963, innocent 17-year-old Baby vacations with her parents at a Catskills resort. One evening, she is drawn to the staff quarters by stirring music. There she meets Johnny, the hotel dance instructor, who is as experienced as Baby is naive. Baby soon becomes Johnny’s pupil in dance and love.

An enduring hit, DIRTY DANCING was filmed in 1986 and released a year later, becoming a smash during the summer of 1987. Now considered an iconic cultural snapshot of the 1960s, DIRTY DANCING spawned a stage musical, a TV remake and several reality competitions, two multi-platinum albums, and an Oscar win for Best Original Song (“(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life”). The film was selected for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry by the Library of Congress in 2024.
