The Bridges of Madison County

Academy Award winners Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep star in this passionate tale of two lives irrevocably linked–a lonely farmer’s wife and a traveling photographer who share a romantic affair that, although brief, affects both profoundly. In the fall of 1965, photographer Robert Kincaid (Eastwood) pulls his pickup truck into the drive of Francesca Johnson’s (Streep) home to ask for directions. He’s come to Iowa to photograph covered bridges for National Geographic magazine. Her husband and two children have gone to the Illinois state fair, and after 15 years of marriage the luxury of time to herself is an unusual break from her daily life … as is the courteous stranger approaching her for information. In the few short days before these two separate, they discover love, choices and the consequences that will stay with both of them for the rest of their lives.

Based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Robert James Waller. Clint Eastwood also directed and co-produced the film, originally released in June, 1995.
