Theater Rental & Event Catering

The Avalon offers two distinct theaters – the Avalon 1 and Avalon 2 – for rent to individuals, organizations, and businesses. The Avalon also provides rental catering services. We can put together a range of menus accompanied by wine, beer and refreshments to make your rental event all the more successful. The theater, built in 1922, is an architectural gem and boasts a landmark exterior and a beautifully restored interior. Renovations have preserved its exquisite quality while providing modern technology, comfort and enjoyment.

Located minutes from both downtown D.C. and Bethesda, Maryland, the movie houses may be rented for film presentations or private events. Since the Avalon is a first-run movie house, there are a limited number of time slots and dates available.

Rental rates are determined by auditorium choice (Avalon 1 or 2), time and duration of the event, and day of the week. Nonprofit organizations are eligible to receive discount rates. Please contact us with date inquiries as early as possible and we’ll happily discuss rental opportunities with you.

  • Avalon 1 (main auditorium) seats 428 people plus 6 spaces for wheelchairs. 35mm and video projection are available (Supported formats: Blu-Ray, DVD, VHS, Beta-SP). There is no stage, but there is ample room in the front for speakers, musicians, etc.
  • Avalon 2 (second floor auditorium – no elevator; stairs only) seats 165 people. 35mm and video projection are available (Supported formats: Blu-Ray, DVD, VHS, Beta-SP).

Please Note: if your event requires canceling one of our commercial film showtimes (if available), pricing will increase substantially. Canceling peak commercial showtimes will cost even more. Auditorium choice, event duration, time of day and day of week also affect pricing. Not all dates are available for rent. Birthday rentals are in Avalon 2 on weekend mornings.
