The film IN THE SHADOW brings us to 1950s’ Czechoslovakia where Captain Hakl (Ivan Trojan) investigates what looks like an ordinary burglary. However, it soon becomes apparent that the events Hakl attempts to explain have a political undertone. After the case is abruptly given to a criminal specialist, Hakl comes to understand that he is witnessing an attempt to investigate a crime. The captain decides to continue by himself, facing an enemy that is far stronger than he ever envisioned. At a time where every sign of weakness, every shadow of the past can be exploited, the line between innocent and guilty is disturbingly thin.
