Ceiling Restoration
20 September 2010— The Avalon Theatre is proud to announce the completion of one of its longstanding Campaign goals: to restore the Avalon 1 ceiling, including touchups to the magnificent mural of the Greek god Mercury in the dome of the larger theater’s ceiling and fixing of the peeling ceiling paint elsewhere. Avalon board member and local artist Kim Abraham spearheaded the project as the Avalon’s very own Michaelangelo. The project took one week using three scissor lifts during night-time hours; the theater continued to operate during the day. The original artist of the ceiling mural was Dana Westring.
Thanks to Avalon Legacy Campaign Donors
for funding this project!
This project marks one of many goals of the Avalon Legacy Campaign, other outstanding goals including installing an elevator to the upstairs Avalon 2 theater, installing an enhanced lighting system in the Avalon 1 theater, upgrading to energy efficient heating and cooling systems, and reducing the building mortgage by an additional $450,000.
