Maudie

Watch Trailer

Oscar nominated actress Sally Hawkins (BLUE JASMINE, HAPPY-GO-LUCKY) takes on her strongest role yet in MAUDIE, the true story of renowned folk artist Maud Lewis. Bright-eyed but hunched with hands crippled by rheumatoid arthritis, Maudie yearns to be independent and live away from her protective family, and she also yearns, passionately, to create art. She is given a new opportunity when the reclusive Everett Lewis (Ethan Hawke) hires her to be his housekeeper and Maudie convinces the curmudgeonly Everett to let her begin painting scenes throughout his tiny home. When sophisticated urbanite Sandra (Kari Matchett), summering nearby, takes notice of Maudie’s work, she launches the artist’s rise to fame. Along the way, unexpectedly, Everett finds himself falling in love. MAUDIE showcases the perserverance, indefatigable optimism and the enduring influence of this remarkable artist.
