Dunkirk

“CRITIC’C PICK! A tour de force of cinematic craft and technique in the service of a sober, sincere, profoundly moral story that closes the distance between yesterday’s fights and today’s, with visual sweep and emotional intimacy. – Manohla Dargis, The New York Times

From acclaimed auteur Christopher Nolan (INTERSTELLAR, INCEPTION) comes the epic action thriller DUNKIRK. In May 1940, Germany advanced into France, placing Allied troops in a precarious position. Following a catastrophic defeat, they were trapped on the on the beaches of Dunkirk with their backs to the sea and facing an impossible challenge while the enemy closed in. The story unfolds on land, sea and air as the Allies mounted a desperate rescue effort. Risking their lives in a race against time to save even a fraction of their army, they used every serviceable naval and civilian vessel that could be found while French and English forces provided air and ground cover. By the end of the operation, over 300,000 troops were evacuated to safety.

The film features a multigenerational ensemble cast, including Kenneth Branagh, Cillian Murphy, Mark Rylance, and Tom Hardy — as well as rising stars Fionn Whitehead and Harry Styles. DUNKIRK was filmed on location in France, Holland, the UK and Los Angeles.
